New article examines salt dissolution in western Kansas, eastern Colorado
A new article published in Midcontinent Geoscience, the peer-reviewed journal of the Kansas Geological Survey, examines salt dissolution in the Syracuse basin region in western Kansas and eastern Colorado. Using geophysical well log data, the authors produced a detailed regional map showing the extent of a broad salt-cement dissolution halo around the basin’s perimeter.
The study will be of interest to oil and gas regulatory agencies and industry personnel, especially those involved in well planning and design, and to hydrologists who want to understand the potential for cross contamination of freshwater aquifers.
