Exploration Services

Exploration Services provides support for seismic research, the KGS drilling program, water-level monitoring projects, and other field-based activities.

Seismic Reflection

Seismic reflection technology has been applied to characterizing the shallow geology at locations that are environmentally contaminated; in detecting shallow subsurface voids that might be related to sinkholes, tunnels, or construction; and in mapping faults or bedrock surfaces, among other uses. KGS researchers have used seismic reflection to, among other things, study a large sinkhole in Pawnee County.

Drilling Services

Exploration Services provides drilling in support of water, petroleum, and basic subsurface research. An active program in the maintenance and rehabilitation of wells drilled by the KGS is also part of this section.

Water-Level Measurement Project

Since 1996, Exploration Services has managed the acquisition of data related to changes in water level and associated saturated thickness in the state's aquifers.
