"Malena Orduña Alegría"

An interview with KGS postdoctoral researcher Malena Orduña Alegría will be featured in a live episode recording of “The Sweaty Penguin” podcast, a climate-themed podcast created and hosted by Ethan Brown. The event, “Understanding Water Use in Kansas,” will take place at 5:30 p.m. March 25 in the Hawk’s Nest of the Kansas Union. Hosted by the Commons and the University of Kansas Environmental Studies Program, it is open to the public, and pizza and beverages will be available.

The event is presented as a lead-in to this year’s Global Climate Teach-in and in partnership with professor of geography and director of the environmental studies program Shannon O’Lear’s Geographic Adventures in Climate Change course.

“The Sweaty Penguin” is committed to bringing solutions and humor to the climate conversation. Brown’s interview will highlight Orduña Alegría’s work studying the relationships between human and water systems and its focus on agriculture, groundwater depletion, and governance. In addition to traditional research methods, Orduña Alegría has created a game to help communities understand through role playing and strategy development the complex set of factors that affect farmers’ decision-making.
